Meredith Root
Tactic Co-Founder, Cycling & Strength CoachMeredith Root is the co-founder of Tactic and has well over a decade of experience in strength and conditioning training, coaching, and competing across a variety of sports. She holds certifications from USAW, USATF, RKC, CF, and has always enjoyed learning about the science behind effective training. After a successful career as a CrossFit athlete where she competed individually at the CrossFit Games in 2018, she retired in 2020 and found her love for cycling again. She made her way onto a gravel bike in 2022 and hasn’t looked back. She’s had impressive performances at Unbound (100 & 200), Leadville, RPI, and has started experimenting with XC Mountain bike races. She excels in the 100-mile distance but enjoys the challenge of longer races where mental toughness and durability become more significant factors.
Meredith’s cycling career benefits from her experience as an athlete and a coach in strength training. She has a unique perspective on combining training modalities because she’s seen first-hand how beneficial strength training is for endurance athletes, and she understands the science and methodology that makes it possible. She is the head programmer for Tactic Fitness where she applies balanced concurrent strength and conditioning concepts to create exceptional low-cost programming for people around the world. According to Meredith, her favorite thing about coaching, whether it’s Olympic weightlifting or cycling, is seeing something click into place for someone. It’s the ah-ha moment that really ratchets up confidence in what a person is doing!
If you know Meredith, you also know she really loves to give back and to empower the people around her. She has worked in her local community and through online initiatives and partnerships with organizations like Zwift, The Be Good Foundation, and Liv to create a more inclusive and transformative experience for women on bikes. In just a few short years, Meredith has carved out a space for herself as a leader in the cycling community, which is no surprise at all to those who know her well.
Meredith lives in Fernie, British Columbia with her partner Alex and their growing family of animals. She enjoys quiet time in the morning and the sound of fat bike tires squeaking through fresh cold snow.
Fun Fact: Would trade it all to be a virtuoso musician, she LOVES music.
@meredith_rootAlex Parker
Tactic Co-Founder, Running, Cycling, and Strength CoachAlex Parker is the co-founder of Tactic. She has over 10 years of experience as a coach and has been a lifelong athlete competing at various levels in many different sports. Her passion goes deeper than just sports though. She has enjoyed learning about and applying the psychology and mindset behind athletics and movement, especially for ‘regular’ people who compete at the recreational level.
Alex competed in Alpine Ski Racing at the international level and then on the NCAA circuit. After she retired from that sport, she found CrossFit, which more than satisfied her competitive drive. After qualifying for, and competing in the CrossFit Games in 2015, the highest level in that sport, she retired in 2020 and returned to running, a sport that she had always loved. She found her love for running on her high school Cross Country team and alongside her dad who was a dedicated marathoner and a role model in the sport for Alex. Since then, Alex has completed 10 marathons, three of them in under 3 hours, several half marathons, and a handful of ultra distance trail races. Of course, she keeps up with functional fitness and strength training, as she understands the importance of that for longevity in any endurance sport.
And to no surprise, as the multisport athlete she always has been, following in Meredith’s tire tracks, Alex took up gravel biking and has raced in a variety of local events as well as the RPI Queen’s Stage Race in 2025 with respectable finishes to boot.
Alex leads and coaches the Tactic Run Club which was established almost 4 years ago! She has been coaching runners of all capabilities in all distances. According to Alex, her favourite thing about coaching is empowering and encouraging people to set big goals and see them through. She believes that running is so much more than running.
Running teaches us a way of being and helps to build confidence and personal pride.
Alex lives in Fernie, British Columbia with her partner Meredith, their three Siberian Forest cats, their two border collies (one of which is Alex’s new running partner), and their loveable Golden Retriever, Joe. She especially enjoys cuddling on the couch with Joe after long runs.
Fun Fact: Is a puzzle nerd. The only thing that can make her sit still for longer than an hour is a challenging 1000-piece minimum jigsaw puzzle or expert level Sudoku.
@aaparker1Lynsey Martin
Tactic Head Coach, Running and Strength CoachLynsey has been involved in sports and athletics for as long as she can remember. Growing up, she played just about every sport she could get involved in. She was a collegiate athlete, running Track and Cross Country for the University of Guelph. She trained and competed in body building before transitioning to CrossFit, a sport she competed in for nine years.
During her time in CrossFit, Lynsey progressed from athlete to coach, completing her CrossFit Level 1 certification and coaching classes throughout her years in the sport. She competed at the highest levels of the sport, ultimately reaching the Semifinal level before retiring from competitive CrossFit. Alongside her own athletic career, she has spent many years working as a personal trainer and as a strength and conditioning coach, including leading the girls’ program within a hockey organization.
Around 2020, Lynsey transitioned to online coaching and has continued to work exclusively with athletes and clients remotely. She has completed multiple mentorships through Optimum Performance Training, continuing to develop her knowledge and coaching skills while working with people across a wide range of goals and experience levels.
Her coaching philosophy is rooted in communication, consistency, and meeting people where they are. She believes that the best coaching relationship is one where clients are willing to communicate openly about their goals, how they are feeling, and what is happening in their lives so that training can be adjusted and individualized accordingly.
Lynsey enjoys helping aspiring athletes develop towards competition and races where they can turn months and years of hard work into strong performances on the competition floor or on the road. At the same time, she finds just as much fulfillment in working with someone who is brand new to training and watching them confidently perform their first back squat or complete their first 5k. For her, coaching is about helping people discover what they are capable of and developing a genuine appreciation for training along the way.
Outside of coaching, Lynsey continues to pursue new challenges in her own athletic life. After years dedicated to competitive fitness, she is currently pursuing barrel racing with her two horses, Cash and Ollie.
She is passionate about sharing the lessons that sport and training have taught her and helping others find the same enjoyment, confidence, and sense of accomplishment that she has found through fitness.
